Statement of Faith

On Scripture

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is God’s revelation to man, is eternal, and is the final authority in the life of the believer.

On The Godhead

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

I John 5:7
“For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” (New King James Version)

On Jesus Christ

We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death—as our substitute—through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

Hebrews 9:22
“And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”  (New King James Version)

On The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells all believers, conforming them to the image of Christ.  We believe in a separate and subsequent impartation available to all believers: that is, believers shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit and thereby empowered to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe in the accompanying gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit indwells all believers

Acts 5:32
“And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” (New King James Version)

Romans 8:14-16
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…”  (New King James Version)

I Corinthians 12:3
“Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.”

Baptized with the Holy Spirit

“…for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Empowered to be witnesses

Gifts of the Holy Spirit
+References

I Corinthians 12:4-11
“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

On Creation and Fall of Man

We believe that God created man, in His own image, to have relationship with him.  Sin entered the world through Adam’s transgression, but all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, incurring the penalty of death (spiritual and physical).

Genesis 1:27
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Romans 3:23
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”

On Salvation

We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, which cannot be augmented or substituted by one’s good works.  It is God’s grace received by faith in the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross and His shed blood.

Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Ephesians 2:8
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God…”

Hebrews 10:12-22
“12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Romans 10:9-10
“…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Jesus is the only way to the Father
+References

John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Acts 4:10-12
“…let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

The inward witness of salvation is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; the outward witness to all men is a lifestyle that imitates the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 26:20
“First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.”

Romans 8:16
“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

On Baptism

We believe that through water baptism we participate in the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection.  We believe that all believers should follow in the example of the Lord Jesus Christ by being baptized.  For the new believer, it is an outward and public confession of their faith in Christ Jesus.

Romans 6:3-5
“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection…”

Colossians 2:12
“…buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”

Acts 2:38
“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

John 1:29-33
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’

On The Resurrection of the Just and the Unjust

We believe in the resurrection of the saved to eternal life, and the resurrection of the lost (those who reject the lordship of Jesus Christ and His substitutionary atonement) to everlasting punishment and eternal damnation in the lake of fire.

John 14:2-3
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

I Thessalonians 4:13-17
“13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

Matthew 24:30 – 31
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

Luke 12:4 – 5
“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!”

Matthew 13:37-43
“He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Matthew 25:32-34,41,46
“32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world… 41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels..”. 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

On The Church

We believe in the unity of the one true church—the whole company of those who have turned from dead works to put their faith in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.
